THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE (2009)

The whole ambiance of the movie is pleasant. However, the casts are not strong on their roles. On many occasions I felt that Bana should have been more convincing, he seems just breezing through this movie while he’s actually the main actor. As a couple who’s in love, Bana and McAdams complement each other, they suited together.

The movie is about Clare (Rachel McAdams) who married to Henry (Eric Bana), who has genetic disorder that makes him time-travel unexpectedly. Although deeply in love with her husband since she’s very young, she must constantly deal with a husband who keeps disappearing during special moments of her life. More over, she doesn’t know where he’s going and when will he come back.

As far as the plot goes, it is interesting but may not be entertaining for some. For a film like this I tend to think much about the “what ifs”, but that’s juts my mind wondering. Moving back and forth to present then to the past, to present again then to the future, without a pattern, is a bit confusing and made me feel cheated though. CMIIW. At almost end, when Henry visited Clare who’s already a widow, Clare asked when was it on Henry’s time. Henry’s young appearance and answer (mostly the appearance though) gave me the idea that it was when the couple were still without a kid. In this scene, young Henry also meets Alba, their daughter, and he didn’t look surprised. So when the couple had miscarriages, why was Henry disoriented and decided to protect Clare by having a vasectomy? Doesn’t this mean he has traveled to the future and meet widowed Clare and Alba anyway?

Well, as said, it’s a pleasant watch. The movie was adapted from a novel of the same title, written by Audrey Niffenegger.

My rating: 3/6
