SCUSA MA TI CHIAMO AMORE (2008)

Posted: June 25, 2010 by REY. in Based on novel/comic/play, Fantasy/Fairy Tales

No matter how absurd the idea of falling in love with someone 20 years apart, things like this do happen in real life, don’t you think? Here’s one movie which has something similar in theme but using different approach.

Brokenhearted after being left by his girlfriend, on his way to work Alex accidentally hit a teenager in her scooter with his car. The girl, Nikki, is a 17-years old gorgeous looking and smart brat. She can sense immediately that he’s a very polite person, and since the accident day she keeps contacting him as if he’s her personal driver in substitute for her broken scooter. In no time the old bachelor gets tangled into Nikki’s vivacious acts and they became a couple.

True, there are loads of cliche there. But against all odds, it also has appeal that make the movie a sexy watch, apart from it’s being in Italian languange and the appearance of Raoul Bova who plays character Alex :P Twenty years apart, one is already settled down in life, the other one is still exploring her possibilities. She makes him feeling younger, and he makes her finding her true love. Alex gets the second chance to live his life in a different way than what he already has.

Some people may find the movie too vulgar and absurd, especially with the sex scenes. But hey, this movie is from different culture. What’s normal in their society cannot be judged in pure black and white by us. Just enjoy the love story will ya, people have different ways in expressing love.

I enjoy the movie. First, because love like this, surprisingly, does happen in real life. It combines reality and fairy tales. Secondly, the movie is about conflicts arisen from the relationship; parents’ disagreement, social acceptance and rejection, personal confusion whether to make the relationship public or not (from Alex part, obviously) and about making the right choice in love. And lastly, I love the quotes placed in between movie sections.

Also known as “Sorry If I Love You”, the movie is based on a best-selling Italian novel written by Federico Moccia, who’s also the director of the film.

My rating: 3/6
