This is a cartoon weekend for me :) Rather than “manyun nggak jelas mikirin hal-hal nggak jelas” I think I better pull myself up and visit the space I miss from home where I can just be a little girl again. One movie that I cherish for all my life is Lion King. I might have actually watched The Lion King hundreds of times before Mulan came along.
Simba ran away from the Pride Land after his father’s death. He accounted himself responsible for the death, and he chose to run away so that he doesn’t have to face the rest of the Kingdom. It was actually Scar’s idea to trap both Simba and his father, Mufasa, on that death scene, in order to get rid both of them. Scar is Mufasa’s brother who lives in envy because he knows that he could never be the King. Scar took the kingdom with the help from 3 stupid and greedy hyenas, following Mufasa’s death and without Simba claiming the throne.
The once bright and fertile Pride Land has now become dull and dry. Every animal is dying out of hunger, some even decided to move out to another place. Meanwhile, Simba on his exile deep in the jungle befriended with Timon and Pumbaa, living a happy life without responsibilities. One day his (old) best friend Nala almost killed Pumbaa. Simba attacked Nala back to defend his friends, Pumbaa and Timon. The two lions fought and then realised that they knew each other. No matter how hard Nala tried to take Simba back to the Pride Land, Simba insisted that he doesn’t want to go. He tried to forget his past and he still feels guilty for the death of his father. The flash of the past keeps coming to his mind and with the help of Rafiki’s magic, the ancient sorcerer, Simba makes his decision to go back, admit his mistake to everyone and then save the Pride Land from its gradual catastrophe.
The more famous a movie is, the more people trying to find its mistakes and that’s exactly what happens to The Lion King. Just browse through the internet and you’ll find millions of articles about The Lion King. The first time I watched it, I also saw the famous three letter clouds but hey read again and it’s actually written as S-F-X meaning special effects!
The movie, the pictures, the colours, the soundtracks, the story, the friendship, the loyalty… all are brilliant (not to mention the compelling marketing. This is one of the movies that always make me cry, no matter how often I have to watch it. I specially bought the OST cd second-hand with full price at that time because I couldn’t find the new one anywhere. I knew I was being ripped-off by my cousin but since I was so desperate, I didn’t mind. I also collected its Panini stickers although never completed the whole album. The sequels of Lion King have been released following the successful of this one. Just my humble suggestion: stick to this one and no one will get hurt (meaning: the others are boring!).
My rating: ehm again… 6/6
